"Flowers" by Yana Emasheva
Current Exhibition: "Flowers"
featuring recent work by third year drawing major Yana Emasheva
"Since early times humankind has been obsessed with decorating the environment, clothing and the body itself. By applying pattern humans create an illusion of orderliness and beauty around them. Using meditative, repetitive processes and obsessive mark-making I am investigating my fascination with ornament and its relation to the body, both as the one producing it and wearing it as a decoration. I'm using the juxtaposition of artificial and natural: on the one hand, exploring the ancient tradition of stylizing natural forms and using foliage as a base for pattern; on the other hand, imitating natural ways and processes of growth to produce a whole one unit at a time, the name of the show "flowers" being a general concept for all things ornate, handmade and labour-intensive."
Show runs from 15 March to 20 March 2009

New Screen!
The RKG has recently acquired a new screen for projections and videos! It will be a permanent fixture on the East wall. We do not currently have a projector, but some are available to be borrowed. Please approach us any time about a project you might want to present!
Also, thanks to our technician, Graham, for installing the screen.
